WATER-BASED
Stain Preparation:
We
have had great success with our water-based stains, but there are still
some questions about the product and the application. The water-based
stain is a non-acid composition of various UV stable coloring
agents in an aqueous penetrating polymer binder. This non-acid stain lets you have a more consistent surface, since
it does
not react with the concrete like the acid stain, but still gives
you marbling.
Let the concrete
completely dry and then you can start with the staining. Always shake
the bottle of stain very well before using, since
the pigments settle to the bottom. Stain must be applied
on a clean and profiled surface (having sandpaper-like finish).
We recommend using our Stain Prep, but if surface is very smooth
or very hard toweled, a light acid etch followed by the Stain Prep
may be necessary.
When applying
the stain, spray a light mist (do not puddle) and
apply multiple coats if needed. Let the stain dry and then you can apply 2 coats of sealer like normal. Surface
prep and shaking the bottle of stain well before application are
the most important things to remember!
DCS Clear Liquid Release:
Stamping
with DCS Clear Liquid Release is becoming more popular in conjunction
with our Integral Color. It is easy and cost effective; however,
there are a couple of do's and don'ts.
The proper way to
use the DCS Clear Liquid Release is to spray the material directly
on to the stamps with a pump-up sprayer. Keep the
stamps wet at
all times, applying new liquid every two times
the stamps are placed down, or when needed. Do not spray the
concrete surface. If you
have
a job on a slope, and you spray the liquid directly to the
surface, it will run down hill. The material is solvent based,
and will etch into the concrete surface, causing repair problems.
Finally,
to achieve a two color look that powder release will give you,
use our DCS Antiquing Agent with water and a pump sprayer before sealing.
